Ish follows 12-year-old best friends Ish and Maram, whose childhood friendship is shaken after a racially motivated stop and search. In the aftermath of the traumatic event, the pair try to navigate their relationship, grapple with loss, and make sense of their transition into adulthood in this modern coming-of-age story.
Written by Perretta and co-written by Edna Walsh, the film explores what it means to be adultified. Cinematographer Jermaine Canute Edwards (My Father's Shadow) delivers a visually striking portrait of Luton shot in monochrome, accompanied by a bold original score. The film features impressive performances from Luton-based newcomers Farhan Hasnat and Yahya Kitana, alongside singer-songwriter Joy Crookes.
This screening is part of Lighthouse, a fortnightly strand showcasing films slightly off the beaten track. Screenings are Pay What You Feel, so you choose the price that suits you.
