Venue focus: Hertford Beam
BEAM is a modern multi-purpose arts and entertainment venue in the centre of Hertford, Hertfordshire. It reopened in August 2024 after a £30 million redevelopment of the former Hertford Theatre, transforming the site into a larger cultural hub for the local community.

Venue key features
The venue includes:
- A main theatre auditorium seating about 547–550 people
- A smaller studio theatre with around 140–150 seats
- Three cinema screens showing new film releases
- A dance studio and community spaces
- A riverside café and bar for visitors

Main theatre
The main theatre space at BEAM, known as Stage One, is the venue’s largest performance auditorium and the central space for live entertainment. Designed for large-scale productions, it hosts a wide range of performances including drama, dance, music, comedy, and special events.
Stage One has a capacity of around 543–547 seats, arranged across a raked stalls section and a balcony (circle), providing clear sightlines for audiences throughout the auditorium. The theatre was created as part of a major redevelopment of the former Hertford Theatre, transforming the space into a modern cultural venue.
